About Us

The Western Hub of Living Essentials (WHOLE) was an initiative started by the Associated Students (AS) to battle food insecurity on campus. The WHOLE is currently funded through AS dollars and managed by the AS Student Advocacy and Identity Resource Centers (SAIRC) student employees and professional staff whose work focuses on advocacy and providing accessible resources for students in as many ways as possible.

The WHOLE is currently located in the Viking Union 5th floor outside of room 513. But our hope is to find a larger space for the WHOLE in the future and expand our resources.

How Does It Work?

Utilizing the Space

The WHOLE is a completely self service food pantry, clothing closet, and toiletries/personal care closet. Meaning that usage of the WHOLE is completely anonymous at at your discretion, no one has to talk to anyone to receive anything and as long as the Viking Union is open the WHOLE will be accessible. The WHOLE is restocked every morning or as often as possible with the available resources.

The WHOLE pantry contains both quick meal items (top ramen, microwaveable meals, etc.), and non-perishable canned goods and non-perishable items. We also receive frequent donations of perishables (such as bread and baked goods) from community partners such as the Co-op and during most of the year the WHOLE may also have fresh vegetables courtesy of the AS Outback Farm for students to also take with them.

Donations

We are always taking donations! Donations can be left outside of VU 513 and staff will sort through the products and items and stock the WHOLE. We do encourage donors to check for things such as expiration dates on food products before donating as those will have to be tossed if the date has passed.

The clothing closet is geared towards more casual clothing styles as business-oriented clothes will be sorted out and sent to the WWU Career Closet and vice versa. Clothes should be gently used and washed/ready to wear.

In Need Of
